A network topology is the arrangement or structure of a network. Moreover, we can categorize Network topologies on the basis of physical and logical aspects. So, we have listed some types of network topologies:

  1. Bus Topology
  2. Star Topology
  3. Ring Topology
  4. Tree Topology
  5. Mesh Topology

1. Bus Topology

A bus topology is a local area network topology in which all computing devices use a single line or cable for connectivity. Moreover, other known names of bus topology are line, backbone, or trunk topology. Also, it is the simplest, cheapest and widest used form of network topology.

2. Star Topology

A star topology is a network topology in which computing and other peripheral devices are connected to a central device which can be a hub, router or switch.

Moreover, it is a reliable and high-performing type of network topology. And star topology relies on c the central hub or device. And the failure of central device would result in complete network failure. Finally, it is comparatively an expensive network topology.

3. Ring Topology

A ring topology is a network topology in which a computing device is connected to exactly two devices. Hence, all connected devices collectively making a ring shape.

Moreover, ring topology is easy to implement. It is also the relatively cheapest in cost. If a node in network fails than whole network would also fail.

4. Tree Topology

A tree network topology is a combination of star and bus topologies. A bus topology connects an star topology with the help of bus topology.. In tree network topology error rectification is easy and quick. Furthermore, tree network topology is difficult to install, configure and maintain.

5. Mesh Topology

A mesh topology is a type of network topology in which all nodes in a network are connected with each other. Furthermore, wireless networks are common example of mesh topology.

Moreover, one biggest advantage of mesh topology is easy connection of new device without disturbing the network.
